The bathroom remodel is complete and I couldn't be happier.
Many have asked me how I have been "coping" with life since I lost our sweet angel babe. Everytime they ask I catch myself saying.... I am staying busy. WE are staying busy to cope with life these days.
One way I have found that has helped me keep my mind off the sadness (or at least a little bit) is through CREATING. You see many people I know say that they go running to clear their head. I am not able to clear my head while running. I try so hard but truthfully running is a place I think the most about my troubles. Or at least I try and sort them out. And often times I really get tired of doing that and just want silence.
I have been really focusing on what helps me clear my mind and I have realized a lot about myself in the process. DIY, redecorating/ creating a space in my home that brings warmth and light is fact my therapy.
Adding bright light and color to darker areas brings a lot of zen and also tranquility. At least for me. And those small projects I seem to be dabbling in are the fastest way to escape!
Before our bathroom remodel, I used a dark grey paint the first time we painted the bathroom right when we moved in. I decided that light tones really brighten my mood. I'm serious. It really does.
I catch myself spending so much more time in my bright living room then in my darker toned family room. Now that doesn't mean that I am going to up and change my family room decor. What I'm saying is that anyone should find that special place in their home that adds some light into their life to just BE still.
As we did our bathroom remodel,we didn't just decide overnight what we were going to put into it. We spent several months as a couple picking things out. I call this, couples therapy. We actually purchased most all of our large items one at a time over extended period of time so we didn't feel like we were breaking the bank buying everything all at once!
Considering that this is our only bathroom on the main level and on the smaller size, my hubby was determined to get his and her sinks. Yes because my "side" seems to be more messy. All the time! What?
We found this double sink at IKEA for 1/2 the price in their clearance section quite a while back and had to purchase it. We were stoked to get my husband that his and her sink for such a steal!
Perfect vanity, for this space. Large durable drawers with plenty of space to hide my mess!
Goal #1 keep the counter space squeaky clean. At least I'm trying!
I for one really wanted a plank wall. (as shown below) And some cute shelves. If you are looking for a simple way to update your bathroom, I feel a plank wall is the way to go! Not to mention, we didn't have to patch or refinish the wall after we ripped out that big mirror and older light fixture.
Mirror from hobby lobby! Only 30 dollars after my 40% off coupon!!! STEAL!
We ended up keeping our old tub! According to the fixer uppers, keeping an old origional porcelain tub is a selling point in old homes. Also a great way to save a buck. So we just re-finished it with a coat of epoxy tub paint!
I must say my husband did a great job with his first tub/shower tile job. Not to mention the tile flooring! Ok he really did most of the hard manual labor. (I helped with moral support on this part of the room)! Gotta love a construction/handy husband. (You should know I did help paint and grout and bring my husband lemonade throughout the process)!
My favorite feature however in our bathroom remodel is our lion. A reminder to have courage and be kind. Also in rememberance of our courageous angel baby who fought so hard to stay with us.
Adding peices of him in my home helps me feel he is always near! As shown below!
We tried really hard to make this an very inexpensive project!
Big thanks to Targets threshold brand (shower curtain)
And to Nate Berkus for the railroad bath rug!
Don't forget the stress relief lotion from Bath and Body Works. My ultimate favorite!
Hope you all find ways in CLEARING your head from all your troubles and worries. Whether it's is running, yoga, painting, creating, boxing, sewing, whatever. Find it and do it often! I feel it's the cheapest therapy.
As for now I'm signing off. Have a great day.
Oh and also. Don't put a candle below plastic blinds. They will infact burn and almost catch on fire. Just FIY. We unfortunately had to add $15.00 extra dollars to our bathroom remodel due to my unfortunate mistake! I wasn't used to blinds and I completely forgot. Thankfully we were home and no one was hurt! Awe!!!!
