I met Kelsen about 2 years ago and can I just tell you, he is simply so awesome. He is so fun and won my heart the moment we met. Kelsen is a strong boy and so is his amazing family. I must say Kelsen truly is Brave by Design. He proves he is a little fighter everyday and I am grateful he has taught me a lot having known him.
Kelsen went into heart failure when he was 6 months old. He was then placed on life support, then the Berlin Heart while he waited for a heart transplant for over 100 days in the icu. He received his first transplant Oct 6th 2013 when he was 10 months old.
May 2016 we learned that Kelsen's body had rejected his new heart and was in need of a second heart transplant. He was re-listed and waited for 90 days in the hospital until he received his second heart transplant on Aug 11th 2016.
Kelsen has been through more in his short 4 years of life than most of us in our entire lifetimes. Kelsen has undergone 2 heart transplants, at least a dozen surgeries, over 10 blood transfusions, and many other procedures and complications. Kelsen is non verbal, and points to gets needs met. Due to invasive procedures, Kelsen has developed a major oral aversion and receives his nutrition via g-tube in his stomach.
Kelsen has proven to be a fighter from day one, and is an example to everyone around him with a smile on his face on how to be strong and persevere through the struggles of life, no matter what struggles come your way.
Feel free to assist the family in achieving this financial goal to assist in covering medical costs. Please also consider becoming an organ donor, as Kelsen would not be with us today without the selfless decisions made by his donor families.
Josh, Nikki, Kelsen, and Berkley wish to be a channel in which others can be helped, and appreciate your assistance in providing comfort to others in need, especially during this holiday season. If you would like to donate towards other children and families in need that the Wood family has met throughout their experience, please feel free to donate and contact the family with your wishes.
Finally, if you are unable to donate monetarily, please consider donating your time and resources to the children and families at Primary Children's and the Ronald McDonald House. You can also donate blood at various agencies throughout Utah, including ARUP.
There will be dinner, silent auction, bake sale etc. If you'd like to help and donate in anyway please contact Micall Woodard @Kelsen2ndheart@gmail.com

I was so privileged of "winning" an instagram giveaway about 8 months ago (I hardly ever win these giveaways btw) When I won I knew just the family deserving of a photo session. Then Kelsen went into the ICU for nearing 100 days waiting for a second heart. Although scared and sad of the unknown for him and his family, I believed with all my heart he would pull through and I would be able to follow through with what I wanted to do for them. I was glad PhotoStudio_202 was willing to just "wait it out" also. I had the best time practicing what I love, and serving this amazing family with my personal "donation" to his cause and his Brave little life. I have come to learn that memories like pictures last forever. I hope this family will always cherish every smile and every picture captured of their little super-hero. THANK YOU Alicia Kinne and Marissa Vargason for letting take photographs in your beautiful natural light studio. Here are just a few of this brave family.
